Jody Davis, the former Chicago Cubs catcher, and manager of the 2008 Florida State League champion Daytona Beach Cubs, was a participant in the Chicago Cubs home opener on
April 13th at Wrigley Field in Chicago, where he spent his major league career. He caught the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the game from ex-Cubs pitcher and Davis’ former batterymate, Rick Sutcliffe. Both Davis and Sutcliffe are still very popular with Cubs fans. On April 10th, the D-Cubbies begin the defense of their Florida State League title against Brevard County. Tickets are available at participating area Wendy’s.

Daytona area high school baseball will be on display beginning next week at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. On February 17th, the Atlantic High School Sharks will take on
the Mainland High School Buccaneers at 7pm. The following night at 6pm, Seabreeze High School opposes Deltona, and on February 26th, Mainland once again faces another local rival, Father Lopez High School at 7pm. Support local high school baseball and possibly see some future Daytona State recruits as well as pro prospects.
The Daytona State Falcons baseball team is currently 3-1 through their first four games of the new season. As usual they have a strong squad and have posted an early victory against Polk Community College, a perennial rival. Support Falcons baseball and watch for future updates in this blog.

The Daytona Cubs and Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach will host two baseball tournaments in March. The Bethune-Cookman Invitational will be held March 6th to 8th with games beginning at 11am. The MEAC Tournament will be March 15th through the 17th
