Former D-Cubs Manager Davis Back At Wrigley Field

Jody Davis, the former Chicago Cubs catcher, and manager of the 2008 Florida State League champion Daytona Beach Cubs, was a participant in the Chicago Cubs home opener on
April 13th at Wrigley Field in Chicago, where he spent his major league career. He caught the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the game from ex-Cubs pitcher and Davis’ former batterymate, Rick Sutcliffe. Both Davis and Sutcliffe are still very popular with Cubs fans. Davis is still employed by the Cubs, as a roving catching instructor for the entire Chicago Cubs organization, and will be visiting Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach to work with th D-Cubs catchers.

Daytona Cubs Exhibition Vs. Embry-Riddle

The Daytona Cubs will play a preseason contest versus Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on April 8th, two nights before their home opener, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. On April 10th, the D-Cubbies begin the defense of their Florida State League title against Brevard County. Tickets are available at participating area Wendy’s.

Daytona Cubs Home Opener And Two Series Vs. FSL Rivals

The Daytona Cubs open the defense of their Florida State
League Championship at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on City Island in Daytona Beach on April 10th vs. the Brevard County Manatees, class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Opening night will be sponsored by Wendy’s, with free tickets available at all participating area Wendy’s. The following evening also against Brevard County, will be
one of several fireworks nights on tap for the 2009 season. The first meetings with FSL rivals,and the team the D-Cubs defeated for last season’s championship, the Fort Myers Miracle, will be at “The Jack” June 11-12-13-14.
The only other series vs.Fort Myers this year (excluding another possible post-season matchup) will be at the home of the Miracle, Minnesota’s top class A club,Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers June 25-26-27-28. Support The Daytona Cubs and their new manager Buddy Bailey.

New Manager For Daytona Cubs

Veteran minor league manager Buddy Bailey takes over for Jody Davis at the helm of the Daytona Cubs for 2009 as they defend their Florida State League title. It will be Bailey’s second stint as skipper of the D-Cubbies. Jody Davis will still occasionally be seen at Jackie Robinson Ballpark however, as he is the new roving catching instructor for the entire Chicago Cubs system. When he is
in Daytona, be sure and thank him for an incredible 2008 season. By the way, ‘08 Daytona Cubs infielder Darwin Barney, pitchers Andrew Cashner and Marcos Mateo, and catcher Steve Clevenger are training with the major league
club in Peoria, Arizona

High School Baseball Showcase At Jackie Robinson Ballpark

Daytona area high school baseball will be on display beginning next week at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. On February 17th, the Atlantic High School Sharks will take on
the Mainland High School Buccaneers at 7pm. The following night at 6pm, Seabreeze High School opposes Deltona, and on February 26th, Mainland once again faces another local rival, Father Lopez High School at 7pm. Support local high school baseball and possibly see some future Daytona State recruits as well as pro prospects.

The Daytona State Falcons baseball team is currently 3-1 through their first four games of the new season. As usual they have a strong squad and have posted an early victory against Polk Community College, a perennial rival. Support Falcons baseball and watch for future updates in this blog.

Jackie Robinson Ballpark To Host Tournaments

The Daytona Cubs and Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach will host two baseball tournaments in March. The Bethune-Cookman Invitational will be held March 6th to 8th with games beginning at 11am. The MEAC Tournament will be March 15th through the 17th
